Rod, Chain, Dual-chain and Rack-and-pinion Window Openers Compared

Specification comparison and selection notes for JoyHaus electric window actuators: stroke, force, voltage, protection and typical window types.

Start with the sash

Collect sash width, height, weight, hinge position and the opening angle or distance you need. Wide or heavy sashes may need a dual-chain actuator or more than one drive point.

Rod actuators

Stroke 300–1000 mm, 600 / 1000 N, IP54. Listed for glass curtain-wall windows, electric louvres and skylights.

Chain actuators

Stroke 200–1200 mm, 400 / 600 N, 24 or 220 V, IP43. Suited to medium top- and bottom-hung windows and curtain-wall windows.

Dual-chain actuators

Stroke 200–600 mm, 800 / 1200 N, IP43. Intended for sashes wider than about 1.2 m.

Rack-and-pinion actuators

Stroke 350–1000 mm, 800 / 1000 N, IP65, stand-alone or built-in digital synchronisation, stated life 20,000 cycles.

Control and safety

Confirm local switches, wind/rain sensors and building-control interface early. Daily ventilation actuators are not automatically smoke-control components.
