TECHNICAL INSIGHT

Selecting an Electric Window Opener

Match the actuator to the window before choosing the control.

Geometry determines the starting point

Provide sash width, height, weight, hinge position and the required opening distance. Wide windows can need more than one drive point. Mounting brackets and available installation space also affect the choice.

Compare force, stroke and voltage

Rod, chain, double-chain and rack-and-pinion actuators have different installation characteristics. Confirm the exact model, force, stroke and supply voltage. Do not select a power supply from a family-level specification alone.

Check operating conditions

Match ingress protection and operating temperature to the installation. Review rain or wind sensing, synchronization and local override needs. Maintain safe clearance around moving windows.

Separate daily ventilation from smoke control

A motorized window is not automatically a certified smoke-control assembly. Smoke ventilation requires a project-specific system design and current documentation for the relevant components and controls.
