Reaction to fire and fire resistance
Reaction-to-fire classification describes how a material contributes to fire. Fire resistance describes how an assembly performs over a stated period under a specified test. These are different measures and cannot be substituted for each other.
Identify the exact model
Check product name, model, dimensions, construction and installation conditions against the report. Different thicknesses, substrates or supporting assemblies can change the applicable result.
Check who holds the document
The manufacturer, report holder and supplier can be different organizations. A supplier document should retain its original holder and scope. Check issue dates, expiry dates where applicable and whether an updated version is available.
Keep the project context
A material datasheet helps with initial selection but does not replace local code review or engineering approval. Request the current supporting documents before specifying a fire-rated application.
