Cable and Penetration Fire Protection: Mesh, Board or Strip?

Choosing between intumescent mesh, CS195+ board, coated board and strips for cable routes and wall penetrations.

Identify the situation

Is the cable inside a tray, in a trench, passing through a wall, or bundled in a machine room? Each situation favours a different product form.

Flexible wrap — ventilation mesh

The mesh wraps cable bundles; its open weave lets normal heat escape, and it expands on heating. It is not an electrical insulator.

Rigid boards — CS195+ and coated board

CS195+ is a 7.8 mm four-layer board (914 × 914 mm) for indoor use. The coated fire protection board is a rock-wool core board (600 × 1200 mm, 3 or 5 cm) used for cable trenches and routes.

Strips and rods for gaps

Graphite strips and rods close annular gaps around pipes and cables where they pass through walls and fire doors.

Check the tested system

Penetration seals are tested as systems with specific cables, wall types and sealant. Match your design to a tested configuration before specifying.
